Meet Michael: A consultant who scores goals

Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we look at the lives of various Planit team members from across the company. We caught up with Michael Loie Uy, a consultant with our Brisbane team since 2019, to find out what he likes about his job, his experiences with our offshore team, and his love of the English Premier League.

How did you get started in testing?

Early in my career I started out as functional tester and moved up to team lead for applications such as Workbrain and Microsoft Dynamics AX. I found that I enjoyed the organisational side of testing, so I worked my way to test management.

What were you doing before Planit?

I was a test manager for the IT arm of a leading pan-Asian retailer in Hong Kong. I spent three years there helping to implement a new SAP System for the company’s food and retail, and health and beauty businesses across South East Asia.

What do you love about job?

I really enjoy the diverse dynamics of the various teams I’ve worked with, both in my current and past careers. I’ve found that my experiences with all these other cultures have helped me grow as a person.

What qualities make you great at your job?

I am very focused, and like it when things are organised and in their right place. You could say that having an eye for detail is a useful, if not necessary, trait for being an effective tester.

What do you love about your team?

I love working with Planit’s offshore team in Hyderabad. They understand we are after the same goal for our clients, and don’t allow the physical distance or time difference to act as a barrier to them delivering great work.

What do you love about working for Planit?

I feel that Planit genuinely cares and values me and my work. I get recognised when I do well, and I know I will receive support whenever I run into any obstacles.

What have you been doing in your free time recently?

These days I’m either cooking or in front of my TV - when I’m not playing video games then I’m watching live or recorded soccer matches. I’m a huge fan of the English Premier League and a stout supporter of Liverpool FC!
