Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we look at the lives of various Planit team members from across the company. We caught up with Sheby Chirammal, an engineer with our Melbourne team since 2019, to find out about her experience and skills, what makes a great team, and her love of various cuisines.
What is your career background?
I worked as a senior software developer and technical lead for ten years before deciding to divert my career to another flavour of IT, namely testing. Initially testing to me was just about testing, but after I joined Planit, it helped me to view software from a different perspective.
What are your key areas of expertise?
I have strong domain expertise in banking and insurance, as those are the main domains I have worked on. I’m proficient in almost all SDLC models, and I have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to explore different areas of business solutions. I also consider myself an expert in working on Agile methodologies, and I’m always learning and expanding my knowledge about Agile.
What do you love about your job?
I get a lot of satisfaction whenever I see my work being recognised and appreciated, particularly by the top management of a client.
What makes you great at your job?
I am self-motivated, have an eye to detail, and a strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment. I am also a quick learner and can apply, adapt, and up-skill myself to the changing environment.
What do you love about your team?
I am a strong team player and always stand up for my team, and they do the same for me. The people I work with are very supportive, always collaborate to achieve the goal, and we celebrate our successes whenever we cross the finish line.
What do you love about working for Planit?
Planit has given me a platform to go beyond my limits and grow professionally. The company continually provides a wide spectrum of opportunities where I can gain new skills and experiences to reach my career goals. Management has also been always open to talk and listen, and provide me with the support I need.
What's your favourite challenge solved in the line of duty?
One client I worked with was a new bank and did not have any documentation on any of their applications or services. They wanted Planit to test their application flow before launching their product to the market, but the problem was that we didn’t have any requirement documents or a system architecture design to start with.
What was the solution and results?
I had to continuously meet with business stakeholders and other tech counterparts to understand the business needs and gather all the necessary information. This helped us to test the system effectively, as well as suggest improvements in the respective areas of the business.
What have you been doing in your free time recently?
I love to cook and bake, and try different cuisines. I also like to take long drives, even without any destination in mind.
