Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we look at the lives of various Planit team members from across the company. We caught up with Warren, a consultant with our Brisbane team since 2015, to find out about his life before Planit, what he likes about testing, and his love of the outdoors.

How did you get started in testing?

I joined the Australian Navy at 16 from high school, left after 15 years, and spent five years working for Boeing on integrating the combat system for the Collins submarine program. From there, I spent most of my career in functional testing with a speciality on system, integration, and user acceptance test phases.

How has your career developed here?

My current area of expertise is as a test manager with a focus on planning and building teams to deliver quality outcomes for our clients in all levels of government, financial sector, defence, health, and gaming.

What do you love about testing?

I like having the ability to influence the quality of a product, and provide a useful and beneficial solution to end-users. I also enjoy being involved in the entire lifecycle, from the specifications stage right through to delivering the finished product.

What make you great at what you do?

Having an attention to detail, ability to juggle conflicting priorities, and a pragmatic approach to the job goes a long way in this line of work. I also have a “team first” mentality, which is a key skill to have to succeed in the team part of the job.

What do you love about your team?

To me, they are dedicated, professional people who have a passion for delivering quality solutions. We all come from diverse backgrounds but work together in a collaborative and respectful environment.

What do you love about Planit?

The variety of clients and technologies that I have been able to work with, and the great team in Brisbane. The seemingly limitless amount of knowledge and support available globally through the Planit HUB online collaboration tool is also great.

What's your favourite challenge solved in the line of duty?

It’s a constant balance between pushing a product into production to early or over testing, which incurs unnecessary waste and delays.

What was the solution and results?

Technical, product, and business risk assessments are useful for identifying the correct levels of risk vs. benefit, which are then used to inform key stakeholders about the impacts of their decisions.

What have you been doing in your free time recently?

I'm a mad-keen golfer and I love to travel, though recently I’ve been bushwalking or at the beach. I love spending time outdoors with my partner, adult children, and the dogs, of which there are three between us.
