From the moment I joined the Wellington team, I was sure I had made the right decision to join Planit and move overseas. I was supported and taken care of from day one, and I was impressed with the training and preparation I received ahead of working for a client.
Anna Pagayona, Automation Engineer, Planit
Anna Pagayona has never shied away from trouble shooting or problem solving, particularly when it came to her own work.
“I like the challenge of finding tricky bugs, investigating the root cause of issues, and thinking outside of the box when finding a solution,” she says. “I got into a habit of testing my own code, and since then I’ve made it a personal goal to deliver code that has been sufficiently unit tested.”
Anna’s interest in coding led to a career in software engineering. This meant she spent most of her time writing code to build applications, which over time expanded to include system design, and testing modules and applications.
Having spent a lot of time writing and testing her code, Anna naturally found herself looking at ways to improve the release process. That’s what prompted her to looking into test automation.
“I quickly became interested in test automation, since it combines coding with testing,” Anna says. “This made it a natural fit for me, since I had already been doing both separately for a long time, but now I had the ability to combine the two.”
By shifting her career to test automation, Anna became more exposed to the world of testing. This included hearing word-of-mouth about test consultancies such as Planit and its test automation solutions.
“One of my friends joined Planit and had nothing but positive things to say,” Anna says. “This naturally piqued my interested, so I decided to learn more about the company.”
While researching Planit, Anna found it was actively recruiting for automation experts. She applied and successfully secured a spot as Automation Engineer at the Wellington office in New Zealand, which meant relocating from Manila in the Philippines.
“From the moment I joined the Wellington team, I was sure I had made the right decision to join Planit and move overseas,” Anna says. “I was supported and taken care of from day one, and I was impressed with the training and preparation I received ahead of working for a client.”
In addition to the work support, Anna also appreciates the friendly and social workplace environment. A personal highlight has been potluck lunches that the Wellington office is known for.
“It’s always a blast learning a little bit about the cultures of my co-workers, as well as about them, through the great food we share,” Anna says. “That’s why I always try to attend the potluck lunches, even if I’m on client-side!”
