Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we look at the lives of various Planit team members from across the company. We caught up with Maaz Shaikh, an engineer with our Mumbai team since 2018, to find out what he likes about his job, his tips on task management, and his love for fitness.
How did you get started in testing?
I got my start in testing by joining Planit. Apart from a short stint as an IoT developer intern at an AI start-up, Planit was my first real job after I got my Masters degree in Computer Science.
How has your career developed here?
Since coming to Planit, I’ve had a chance to build up my knowledge to specialise in business analysis, project management, techno-functional business analysis, and testing.
What do you love about your job?
I enjoy having the freedom to experiment with different project management methodologies and then tweak them further to meet project needs.
What qualities make you great at your job?
I would have to say it would be my communication skills, knowledge, and determination to deliver 100% in everything I do.
What do you love about your team?
I am impressed by everyone’s ability and proactiveness to take on new challenges, as well as their willingness to help with a critical task, even outside of work hours.
What do you love about working for Planit?
My manager is very supportive and always available to answer any questions I may have. The company-provided training is also very helpful for upskilling and staying on top of industry trends.
What's your favourite challenge solved in the line of duty?
As a result of a resource crunch, I found myself in a challenging situation where I had to simultaneously manage two projects. Not only that, but they were also in two completely different domains.
What was the solution and results?
I had to develop a strategy where I prioritised my days according to the delivery deadlines. One thing that really helped was running two daily status meetings with my team, one in the morning and the other at the end of the workday. Doing so enabled me to stay on top of project deadlines and deliver higher levels of quality.
What have you been doing in your free time recently?
I like going for a run in the evenings and reading books. I’ve also become interested in coffee, so I’ve been trying out various coffee beans to experience their unique flavours and aromas.
