1997 - Today

1997

Imago QA launches onto the scene, led by Chris Carter, commencing operations in Australia and opening the first AU office in Sydney.

1998

Imago QA opens its Melbourne (AU) office. In order to better service a growing customer base in Melbourne and manage the established Sensis relationship, an office in Melbourne was opened.

1999

Planit officially begins. On April 21 1999, Chris Carter took ownership of the business, officially rebranding the name to Planit Software Testing (Planit Test Management Solutions Pty Ltd).

2000

Launch of the ISEB Foundation Certification. Planit launched the ISEB certification in software testing, being the first company to do so in the Asia Pacific region. (Later rebranded as the ISTQB Foundation in 2005)

2000-
2005

Growth in consultancy. Having established a solid reputation as the largest software testing training provider in Australia, Planit began to expand its capabilities in the testing services sector. During this period Planit entered long-term relationships with companies such as Sensis, MLC, CBA and Vodafone.

2005

Establishment of the ANZTB with Chris Carter as Founding Chairman. From the outset, Planit was heavily involved in professionalising the software testing industry. In 2005, Planit’s founder and Managing Director took this to the next level, working with other key figures in software testing to establish a regional governing body, the Australian and New Zealand Testing Board (ANZTB).

2006

Planit reaches 100 permanent members of staff.

2007

Launch of the Planit Testing Index industry survey. Launched a state of the nation report of software testing in ANZ, collating results from 210 large organisations across the Australia and New Zealand region. Now a regionally recognised and endorsed annual publication of significant note.

BRW Fast 100. Our successful entry was recognition of Planit being acknowledged as one of the fastest growing small to medium sized businesses in Australia.

2008

Human Resources Awards. Planit was a finalist in the Innovation in Recruitment & Retention category for the Human Resources Awards. Our unique Bootcamp training program, together with our structured career development model and inclusive culture, saw us competing with the likes of Deloitte and St George.

Smart Company Awards. Our success story and approach to challenges along the way saw us reach the top 50 in the 2008 Smart Company Awards.

Telstra Business Awards. Consistently high levels of growth, our unique approach to business and our commitment to staff and customers gave us entry into the Telstra Business Awards, where we reached finalist stage.

2009

Planit establishes presence in the New Zealand, opening its Wellington (NZ) office.

2010

Planit goes to India. Planit established an offshoring partnership with Pure Testing, based in New Delhi, allowing us to provide our clients with the flexibility and cost effectiveness of a blended, on-shore / off-shore test capability.

Planit reaches 300 permanent members of staff.

2011

Planit opens Auckland (NZ) office.

Planit awarded HP Best New Partner of the Year.  In 2011, Planit expanded our offering to include tools licensing, offering market-leading rates for software licenses and implementation. Within a year of establishing our partnership with HP, we were recognised as ‘Best New Partner’.

2012

Planit opens Perth (AU) office.

2013

Chris Carter becomes President of the ISTQB. Furthering our quest to lead the industry, Planit’s founder and Managing Director, Chris Carter, was inaugurated as the Global President of the ISTQB – the industry’s international standards and accrediting body.

Planit reaches 500 permanent members of staff.

BRW Momentum Awards. Having demonstrated strong growth, industry leadership and market innovation, BRW acknowledged Planit as a finalist in their Momentum Awards for Mid-Market Business.

2014

Planit establishes presence in the UK, opening its Reading (UK) office.

Planit acquires LearnTesting, bolstering its training offering and UK presence. LearnTesting is a UK-based software testing training solutions provider, featuring an innovative global e-learning platform. This portal offers accredited e-learning materials across industry standard qualifications including ISTQB and BCS.

Planit named as world’s 4th largest pure play testing company. This research report by TechNavio helps to contextualise Planit’s dominance in the Australasian market on a global scale.

2015

Planit partners with The Growth Fund. In March 2015 Planit announces that it has entered into a partnership with leading mid-market Private Equity firm The Growth Fund to provide capital to expand the business into new geographies and service areas.

Australian Growth Company Awards Finalist. Planit achieved Mid-market Finalist status in the Australian Growth Company Awards for its trajectory, innovation and sustained growth.

Planit opens Hamilton (NZ) office.

Focus On Quality Award Winner. This Quality Award was presented in recognition of the consistently high rating from delegates who attend our courses.

Planit opens Brisbane (AU) office.

iSQI Finest Partner Award. Planit was recognised by the world’s largest certification body as their global finest training partner for 2015.

2016

iAwards Business Services Merit Award Winner. The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) presented Planit with the Merit Award in Business Services for innovation in our Service Virtualisation as a Service solution.

CIO Awards Finalist. Planit’s Graduate Programme was recognised for its role in Engaging Youth in ICT, becoming a finalist in the New Zealand CIO Awards.

Planit acquires TenXLabs, establishing offices in Hyderabad (IN) and Mumbai (IN). Established in 2010 and with approximately 130 test consultants offering functional, automation and performance testing services, TenXLabs represents a complimentary addition to existing services which will integrate seamlessly into the Planit group.

Planit reaches 1,000 permanent members of staff.

Planit celebrates 10 years of the Planit Testing Index. The Planit Testing Index is the leading survey of digital projects across Australia and New Zealand. Through its first 10 years, the Index surveyed over 2,300 organisations. It has also had a positive result for charity, Planit donating in excess of $45,000 as an incentive for survey participation.

Planit named in top 500 private companies in Australia. This report by the Australian Financial Review (AFR) and IBISWorld placed Planit at No. 462 in this list.

2017

Planit opens Christchurch (NZ) office.

Gartner includes Planit among the leading mobile testing providers worldwide. Planit was the only company headquartered in Australia and New Zealand included on Gartner's June 2017 'Market Guide for Mobile Application Testing Services'.

Planit named Australia's #2 fastest growing private company. For the second consecutive year, Planit placed in Australia’s Top 500 Private Companies as reported by The Australian Financial Review. Outweighing Planit's ranking, at 461, was its position as the second fastest growing company on the list with a revenue increase of 166.9% year-on-year.

Tricentis Awards Planit Best Implementation Partner for Australia, 2017. This is awarded based upon the number, success and positive feedback of client implementations, as well as our uptake of Tosca training, with over 500 Planit consultants already certified.

Planit enters Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Application Testing Services, Worldwide. Planit was the only new entrant in this Magic Quadrant in 2017 and is the only member to be headquartered in ANZ.

2018

iSQI Finest Partner Award. This award was presented in recognition of Planit's world leading role in certifying IT professionals through iSQI's range of accreditations that set the benchmark for our industry.

Westpac Businesses of Tomorrow Winner. This award recognises our vision, innovation and growth. It is an honour to be considered a progressive business driving change even after 20 years in the industry.

Planit ranks #396 in the AFR's Top 500 Private Companies. Climbing 65 positions, Planit was one of the fastest movers on the list, registering the second fastest growth among tech companies.

Gartner includes Planit among the leading crowdtesting providers worldwide. Planit was one of just two pure play testing companies included in Gartner's September 2018 'Market Guide for Application Crowdtesting Services'.

Planit progresses its position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Testing Services Worldwide. The 2018 Magic Quadrant shows Planit shifting to the right, demonstrating an increasing 'completeness of vision'.

2019

Planit reaches 1,500 permanent members of staff.

100 Most Influential Fintech Companies Award. This award was presented by Harrington Starr who judged Planit ahead of over 2000 companies from across the globe.

Planit becomes a Scaled Agile Silver Partner, meaning additional support for Planit's SAFe consultants and trainers.

Planit achieves iSQI Platinum Partner status. This recognises the large numbers of IT professionals that are trained and accredited by Planit.

Planit is named in the AFR Top 500 Private Companies. Ranked at #402, Planit claimed the second top spot amongst tech companies.

Mike Weale becomes Planit's Managing Director and Planit's founder, Chris Carter, takes on-board the role of Chairman.

Planit is named Tricentis Best Services Partner, ANZ 2019. This award recognises excellence in supporting clients to maximise their utilisation of the Tricentis toolset.

Planit remains a stalwart in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Testing Services, Worldwide. This is the third consecutive year that Planit has been recognised in Gartner's MQ.

Planit opens Adelaide (AU) office.

2020

Planit rises to #390 in AFR's Top 500 Private Companies. This makes Planit Australia's #3 private tech company.

Planit progresses its position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Testing Services, Worldwide. In the 2020 report, Gartner recognised a marked improvement in Planit's completeness of vision, reflected by Planit's significant move to the right in the MQ.

2021

Planit is acquired by Nomura Research Institute, a leading global provider of system solutions and consulting services listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

2022

Planit opens London (UK) office.

Planit establishes presence in the Philippines, opening its Manila (PH) office.

Prosple Top 100 Graduate Employer 2022 Winner and Fast Mover, New Zealand, recognising the popularity and quality of our Graduate Programme as well as the happiness of our graduates.

Planit acquires quality assurance specialist, Qual IT, and partner cybersecurity company, SEQA. The acquisition reinforces Planit's leading position in the New Zealand market, taking the group's local headcount to over 550.

Planit expands its UK footprint by acquiring Shift Left. Headquartered in Yorkshire, the fellow quality specialist's strong capability and customer base complement our growth plans across the UK and into Europe, and takes our UK-based headcount beyond 300.

Planit becomes Atlassian Silver Solutions Partner. This gives companies in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom the option of partnering with a quality engineering specialist for their Atlassian tooling needs.

Planit is named Tricentis ANZ Partner of the Year for 2022. The award recognises the hard work and commitment of our 100+ team of Tricentis certified practitioners and architects, and our work in helping organisations get the most out of their Tricentis implementations.

2023

Planit wins LinkedIn's Talent Award as Learning Champion, recognising our work to drive continuous learning across our employees, globally.

Planit launches a major rebrand. The rebrand reshapes how we articulate ourselves, as we unveil our new mission, vision, and values. It also redefines our visual identity, with the launch of our new logo and look.

Planit achieves ISO 27001 certification for its Quality Engineering, Performance Testing, Automation Testing, and Security Testing practices at its Australia (Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth), Hyderabad, and Philippines offices. This international accreditation recognises our strong commitment to the highest standard of information security practices, something we've been following for years. For our clients, this ensures peace of mind, whether engaging on-premise or remotely.
